Use of Artificial Intelligence
As PJR is committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethics in research and publication, the Journal follows the guidelines of the ICMJE and the COPE regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI)–assisted technologies.
1. Disclosure of AI Use
At the time of submission, authors must clearly disclose whether they used AI-assisted technologies (such as large language models, chatbots, or image generators) in the preparation of their manuscript.
This disclosure must be included in both the cover letter and the manuscript (e.g., Methods or Acknowledgment section), with a description of how AI tools were used.
2. Authorship and Responsibility
AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, image creators) cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, as they cannot take responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the work.
Human authors are fully responsible for the content of the manuscript, including any material produced with AI assistance.
3. Accuracy and Integrity
Authors must carefully review, edit, and verify all content generated with AI tools. AI-generated material may appear authoritative but can be inaccurate, incomplete, or biased.
Authors must ensure that the manuscript is free from plagiarism, including text or images generated by AI.
4. Citation and Attribution
AI tools must not be cited as primary sources or authors.
Authors must provide appropriate attribution and full citations for all quoted or adapted material, regardless of whether AI tools were used in generating or refining that content.
5. Use of AI in Peer Review
In line with the ICMJE Recommendations (Updated January 2024), the use of AI-assisted technologies in the peer review process is not permitted. Reviewers must not upload or share submitted manuscripts with AI tools to generate reviews or summaries.
6. Compliance
Failure to disclose the use of AI tools at submission may be considered a breach of publication ethics and handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.
